Sally In The Woods

There are numerous theories about the ghost of Sally in the woods, debating whether she was a witch or the widow of a banished gamekeeper. This local tale has evolved significantly over the years.

When you drive along the road that passes through the woods at Farleigh or take a walk there, you might feel as if you're being watched or sense another presence, whether human or creature. Many accidents have occurred when drivers swerved to avoid what they believed was a woman on the highway.

Additionally, there's a story about a captured girl at Brown Folly, which likely contributes to the fear and imagination surrounding these ghost stories that have persisted over time, echoing familiar themes.

Several books have been written about Sally in the woods, and the Bathford Society has conducted more accurate historical research on the subject, though it's difficult to access. I apologize for not being able to retrieve it.

However, I am pleased that my story of Sally in the woods is derived from snippets from locals, tales of sightings, and research on the local area, geography, and connections to castles, lords, and monasteries. My story came to life while walking in the woods and valleys, inspired by discovering an unexpected waterfall in a glade. This led me to invest in a tale of time travel, tragedy, and historical change.

Exploring medieval times and tales of witches and mythical creatures, the story of two mourning children takes you to another era, with a daring quest by a monk to prevent an injustice. It begins long ago, as the glade protects the ancient world.

Princess Meriiti 700 BC

Princess Meriiti was born on a sacred day she was considered a Princess of the Gods and her people believed she was sent for a reason, from a small child she was different and learnt all about the world, she experimented with ideas and saw things differently than most, the Princess was obsessed with the planets and stars and she seemed able to predict the winds and moons.

She was loved by her people and lived a rich life by the huge River Nile, their settlement was large and her father the King ruled his people fairly yet sternly, her mother the Queen was beautiful and kind and her many siblings each felt special with their varied roles, the Princess explored her lands more as she grew older and on her eighth birthday she visited a sacred mountain, upon the mountain she heard the Gods story of a magical place on earth. Meriiti was more than intrigued and knew it was her purpose to go to the enchanting place with a waterfall of time.

Meriiti lingered on the mountain that day and she met a boy who was shy and bear like in his ways, she chatted to him all about this wonderful place that the Gods had described and said when the time came, she would travel the seas, deserts, mountains and plains in search of the woodlands and find the place the Gods wished her to visit, Meriiti reluctantly left the bear like boy on the mountain waving and smiling, she thought him lovely but had to go, often she would think of him and hoped to see him again, the years rolled on though and she could not find him again.

Princess Meriiti’s people were from the land before the great Pharaohs, a small and gentle tribe they longed for the world they had been promised in the prophecy, they held the book of Moirai that they carried with great care, they were the protectors and named the Star Gazers and they waited for a sign. One night the stars and skies gave a dazzling display of colours, the people took this as their sign and Princess Meriiti the chosen one was sent with a large swathe of her people, they would search for the waterfalls of time, it was there they were foretold to leave the book of Moirai and travel back to the time of the Gods. The intriguing Neolithic folk began their journey knowing they would never return, they searched on always in hope for many centuries with the Princess Meriiti as their guide and council. They would lose many and gain a few on their travels and with each changing wind and year they grew closer to the northern hemispheres, where they sought their promised land.
